{ Words for a special friend }

59/365

I read this today and thought of you:

“His compassions fail not. They are new every morning.”

Lamentations 3:22-23

Today’s Smiles from the Heart:

A much needed snuggle party with my kidlets.

A conversation with a great neighbor.

Homemade smoothies. They were inspired by a friend. I haven’t made them for months and boy did they taste great.

Garrett reading to me. I love to listen to him read. Reminds me how lucky we are to live in a country where that will be a skill he is taught.

Garrett’s extensive drawing of his take on the Olympics. It’s priceless ya’ll!

Eating peanut m&m’s until I was ill. :)

{ “They’re baaaaaaaack!”}

58/365

We’ll call this little fella “Flik”. He and a few (million) of his closest family members have returned for their annual stay. And that must only mean one thing, spring is near! If this is the case, I will temporarily call a truce with these little buggers. Unless they decide to bite one of us. Then all deals are off. ;)

P.S Ever try photographing ants? It’s not an easy task. They refuse to sit still.

Today’s Smiles From the Heart:

Girls night with Kim and Ashlyn! (Cousin and Niece)

La Hacienda for dinner! Yum.

Sweet words from the hubby. (Even though he is sick as a dog with a stomach bug. Poor guy.)

{ Flaming emotions }

57/365

I am not sure I have the words to describe last nights event, and I am not sure I knew how it would affect me. But I do know that I am exhausted. Mentally, physically, and emotionally. I am looking forward to a calm, safe, night’s sleep.

At about 11 pm last night I had just headed to bed. I had just received some extremely sad news from a dear friend who I adore. I was heartbroken. I could not force myself to blog the Yankee Candle shot of the day, because my heart was heavy. As I pulled the covers up, our trusty black lab mutt Delta who had been sleeping in our laundry room gave off his deep throated warning/something is wrong bark. A special bark that I have only heard a few times before so I knew something was wrong. I went to investigate. As I stepped out of our bedroom I could see that our dining room and living room were lit up. I peeked out the back window and our yard looked as if a spotlight was illuminating it. Our entire yard was as bright as it is in the middle of the day. Then I saw it, flames in our neighbors back yard. Their yard was on fire and I knew I had to alert someone, and quick. However, I realized I was seeing lights coming from the front of our house so I opened the door. As I stepped off of our front porch the heat hit me like a brick wall and I gasped. Our neighbor’s home to the west side of ours was completely engulfed in flames. The fire rigs were already arriving. There were at least 8 large pump trucks that were lining our street. (Apparently the dispatcher informed the fire dept that the closest hydrant was 1200 yards away, however the hydrant sits immediately in front of that house.) The man who lived in the home  was able to get everyone out in nothing but the clothes on their backs, and they have their smoke detectors to thank for that. My children’s rooms are the closest to the neighboring house and they were fast asleep in their beds. I was instructed to get them and our pets and stay across the street just to be safe. I scrambled to get their sleepy little selves and our dogs to safety. We were able to stay with our amazing neighbors in their home until we were given the ok to return to ours at about 2 am once they got the fire under control. It is amazing how quickly that home was engulfed and how quickly it burned. The amount of damage is gut wrenching. Everything was lost. The Fire Marshall has said that they believe it was started by an electrical wire arcing behind the refrigerator. Thank goodness for the smoke detectors. I encourage everyone one of you to do a test on the detectors in your own homes to make sure your batteries are good. Do that test today. Don’t wait. And replace them all if there is any question. I also encourage you to think about the possessions you would want saved if you were to suffer a house fire. Our neighbor had a fireproof lock box and it worked. The items inside were a little wet, but had no fire damage. Get all of your important papers, keepsakes, irreplaceable items, and PICTURES into one of these. Because last night as I was getting my children out, I didn’t have time to grab anything that I would want to take with me. Nothing was where it should be anyway. It was not even my own home in flames, but there was that risk and my stomach was in knots. If it were my own home on fire there would have been even fewer seconds to grab anything but my children…

I want to end this with a huge shout out to the four fire departments that responded to the call in record time last night. Pace, Avalon, Bagdad, and Midway. It’s comforting to know that if ever there is a need, they will be there.

Today’s Smiles From the Heart:

The safety of my family and our home.

Neighbors who were there for us during, and who came to check on us today. We are so blessed by amazing neighbors, and live in an incredible neighborhood!

{ We all have a song that’s somehow stamped our lives… }

56/365

Takes us to another place and time…

The same goes for scents. A single whiff of a familiar smell and I go back. My mind filled with memories, and my heart filled with emotions. I have been hooked on Yankee Candles for years. Kiwi Berries is the current fragrance filling my home. This is a new scent for me. I have my go to favorites, and I have those that I test drive along the way. This is a test drive, and I think I am pleasantly pleased with it’s fruity aroma. My all time favorite is Island Mango. Island Mango = Our first apartment, our kitty “Cutter”, wedding planning, and life as newlyweds. I will forever love that scent, and the memories it brings. My second favorite is Macintosh Apple. Macintosh Apple = Fall in New England, our home on Cape Cod, finding out we were pregnant with our first child. A scent I also will always adore. The memories are so sweet.

Today’s Smiles From the Heart:

My family, and the fact that we are one. Something I will never take for granted, and will cherish daily.

{ The preschooler! }

55/365

As much as I was not quite ready, she was. She has been for months, so yesterday she did. Yesterday she became a PRESCHOOLER!! She is the newest student at First Steps Christian Preschool! Our baby Avery is growing up so so quickly. I had a very hard time with the idea and was very emotional over it, but all of this was overshadowed by her joy and excitement! (We made the decision to enroll her while Grammie was here visiting! Four hours twice a week!) Yesterday as we began our day I woke Avery up “Are you ready to go to your new school today and meet all of your new friends?” “Yeah!! We need to go get Grammie!!” (awwwwww) We got ready and I convinced her to let me take a few pictures of her with her “Pack Pack” on. It’s bigger than she is and the sight of her wearing it was too adorable to let pass by. We then headed to school. As we entered the classroom she immediately became clingy. This lasted for a whopping five minutes before she was busy coloring a map of the United States. It took me a whopping 30 mins to leave her class. What can I say? Momma had separation issues! (She’s my baby, leave me alone! ;) ) Our neighbor is a teacher at the preschool and she was able to check in on Avery a couple of times through the morning and sent pictures of her to my phone! I cherished them! However, pick up time could not come quick enough! I hurried back to her school and she instantly began telling me things she did! As she held my hand and lead me to the circle time rug, she squatted down and pointing to it said ” I sang songs!” Her teachers said that she did not say a single word until snack time but that once she did she became a chatterbox. They also told me that she kept saying “This is my school!”, and that she had a great day! She spent the day learning about the United States and even got to eat a chocolate chip cookie! All American food! The rest of the afternoon was filled with her telling me bits and pieces of her day at school in the most happy little voice! Yesterday I fell more in love with my baby girl! It’s true what they say! Just when you think there is no possible way you could love your child any more than you already do, you find out you can! <3

I will leave you with a few of her quotes from the afternoon:

“I ate my peanut butter and jeywie all up!”

“I played with my new boy!” (We are in trouble for sure!)

“I went to my new pweeschool with my teachers, bubba!”

Oh that dimple:

“I’m ready to go to my school!”:

Smiles From the Heart:

My baby girl, in all her joy!

The stories she told.

Garrett asking her all about her day when he got home! He was just as excited for her as she was!

Garrett, our Super Citizen… again. I have lost count at how many times he has been awarded this in class.

Skype-ing with a friend for two and a half hours. It was so nice, and so fun! I felt like we were really hanging out! Love ya girly! Thanks for that! I needed it!
